Team information

Will you join us?

The Senior Copywriter sits within the Creative team at Mind, our newly-formed in-house creative team. Our vision is to provide an agency-standard creative service to the organisation, driving creative excellence and bringing Mind's work to life with impactful, innovative content.

The Senior Copywriter will provide a specialist copywriting and editorial service to all Mind teams. You'll have the opportunity to write for projects both big and small, across various channels and audiences – from marketing materials to film scripts. You will also be responsible for checking our communications for editorial accuracy, so attention to detail and excellent spelling, punctuation and grammar is essential.

Key to this role is helping to tell Mind's story, elevating our brand and bringing brilliant communications to life. That means you'll be leading the development of our tone of voice, upskilling teams and leading on best practice on how to write well at Mind. You will champion our tone of voice guidelines on all projects too. While this role will predominantly involve hands-on editorial work, you will also be responsible for commissioning and managing freelance copywriters or editors where appropriate.

In addition to providing specialist editorial expertise, you will also collaborate with the wider content teams to generate powerful concepts for content and campaigns.

This role will be responsible for line managing the Copywriting Officer, supporting them to deliver best-in-class content and develop their skills.

Key duties and responsibilities

The post holder will:

  • Lead the development of Mind's copywriting and editorial offer, writing attention-grabbing, audience-centred branded content.
  • Write, edit and proofread communications materials to ensure consistency and compliance with Mind's branding, values, key messages and style guidelines (including reports, in-house marketing collateral, adverts, case studies, infographics, video scripts, etc.).
  • Oversee the planning, production and delivery of written communications across a range of projects, channels and platforms. Ensure production processes are adhered to and Mind communications are delivered on time, within budget and to the highest standards.
  • Respond to copywriting briefs coming into the Creative team, and work on copywriting portions of other projects when briefed in to do so. That means working with clients to hit the goals of work briefed in, working through rounds of amends and delivering content promptly.
  • Line manage the Copywriting Officer, including carrying out regular 121s and performance reviews, and ensuring all required line management administration is completed as required.
  • Act as creative lead as needed and in response to assigned projects.
  • Work with the Copywriting Officer and Head of Creative to upskill teams when it comes to writing and working with Mind's tone of voice, delivering workshops where necessary. Work proactively to understand other teams' needs and provide tools and support across the organisation.
  • Edit your own and others' writing to a high standard, taking responsibility for ensuring all communications materials are well-written with accurate spelling, punctuation and grammar.
  • Be a champion for Mind's tone of voice. That means championing both good writing and our tone of voice guidelines across all projects you work on, as well as providing expertise on copywriting when needed too.
  • Work collaboratively with colleagues across Mind, local Minds and Mind Retail to ensure a One Mind approach to projects.
  • Work with the Stories Officer to ensure key message documents are uploaded and stored to our digital asset management system in accordance with all processes.
  • Work with teams across the organisation and be integral to the success of multiple projects.
  • Working to multiple briefs at once, lead on developing and creating powerful and emotive written content in a timely and organised manner. Often working reactively, the role will require someone who is able to work quickly and effectively manage competing priorities.
  • Ensure audience insights are embedded across all communications and make recommendations for any gaps in organizational knowledge.
  • Ensure our written content involves people with mental health problems from a full range of diverse backgrounds. You will proactively support Mind's strategic priority including becoming a truly anti-racist organization and ensure your work contributes to this.
  • The nature of the duties may change and develop, according to the needs of the team. This will require a flexible and adaptable approach.
