The fight for mental health is far from over. There is a big opportunity, right now, to make brand Mind even stronger and more impactful, to support the delivery of our strategic objectives and a growing need for our support.
We are particularly focused on 1. becoming a truly anti-racist organisation 2. supporting young people (with a focus on trauma) and 3. fighting for the mental health of people in poverty. We know there are complex and interconnected challenges with these priorities that need our urgent attention.
This is an exciting senior leadership role and pivotal to supporting us to realise these ambitions. Sitting within Mind's communications function and managed by the Executive Director of Social Change, the Head of Strategic Communications and Marketing will bring senior strategic communications leadership, driving an insight led, integrated approach across all our communications disciplines in England and Wales.
The post holder will:
- Overall responsibility and exemplary strategic leadership for Mind's strategic communications and marketing across England and Wales.
- Lead and develop effective working relationships across Mind, Mind Retail, Local Minds and Mind's external stakeholders and networks to create a culture of co-operation, flexibility and adaptability to achieve Mind's strategic objectives.
- Oversee the creation and implementation of a federation-wide communications approach, including centralised ‘narrative' and stakeholder plans and management
- Provide leadership and oversight of our ambitious supporter engagement programme, transforming how supporters engage with Mind. You will also take strategic accountability for the development and implementation of Mind's participatory community of supporters and activists, including a strong focus on our three development priorities (young people, racialised communities, people in poverty).
- Lead Mind's approach to membership, ensuring that this meets our governance objectives.
- With strategic accountability for our Marcomms you will empower and resource the team to deliver awareness campaigns, including Time to Talk Day ensuring strategic buy-in across Mind and partners.
- Working with partnerships, business developments and organisational change to agree senior direction on programmes and partners from a communications perspective.
- To develop strategic external communications contacts and partners. Negotiate and influence on complex and significant issues as necessary including ethical decision making, risk and reputation issues.
- To be a thought leader and subject matter expert, providing corporate leadership and expertise around strategic communications and marketing, internal and external communications and risk. Provide advice and guidance across Mind leadership, senior management and trustees.
- Contribute to crisis management and decision making on risk and reputation issues.
- When required lead on cross organisational work streams and programmes. This includes planning, organising and taking accountability for performance and delivery.
- Accountability for collecting, understanding and applying Mind's overall communications evidence and insight. You will embed a powerful communications evaluation approach across all disciplines including a single approach to audience engagement. You will build on existing metrics and measures and coordinate a shared approach to improvements across brand, content and digital engagement and media and PR.
- Responsibility for embedding and ongoing monitoring of our new audience strategy and segmentation, working collaboratively with functions across Mind including data, fundraising and strategy.
- Take the lead in ensuring our work is sensitive, trauma-informed and draws on the views of people with experience of mental health problems inform and guide our work.
- Ensure that we are engaging diverse groups and stakeholders, including racialised communities, young people and those experiencing poverty.
- Accountability for our integrated communications planning approach.
- Manage the overall budget for our strategic communications and marketing.
- Play a significant role on Mind's communications leadership team, significantly supporting the creation and delivery of Mind's communications strategy and major step chance in Mind's approach to strategic communications.
- Deputise for the Executive Director of Social Change, where required.
- Undertake other duties that may from time to time be necessary, that are compatible with the nature and grade of this post.
